2008 Western Lane Community Foundation Grant
Left, Weldon Oliver receiving a grant check of $4000 from Western Lane Community Foundation. This donation will be used to teach oil painting classes to Siuslaw Elementary grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th during April & May of 2008 for a total of 300 children. The money purchased art supplies. The 12" x 16" painting boards were locally produced by W. G. Peterson and prepared by Helping Hands. Each board was taped along the borders with painter's tape to leave a finished look to the painting ready for hanging. A total of 600 paintings were finished by Siuslaw Elementary School students.

2008 Fall Oil Painting Classes ~ Cost Analysis
Sponsors Needed
Helping Hands is now looking for sponsors to help prepare during the summer in order to do classes in the fall. Presently, 1200 boards are needed for a cost of $1800. Monies are needed for priming the boards and handling them after drying to be ready for classes. The time to prepare these boards is 4 hours per one hundred boards. Boards must be primed and dried, packed to finish and then packed in units of 30 for each class.
The cost of labor is $10 per hour coming to $40 per 100 boards, bringing the labor to $480 for preparing all the boards.
The cost for teaching the classes is divided between the Instructor and the Instructor’s Assistant. A total of 6 hours of preparation, clean up, and instruction is needed for both the instructor and the assistant for each class. Please see the complete cost sheet. Sponsors can contact Helping Hands by phone 541/991-0648 or email info@handsforart.org.
Other school districts such as Reedsport and Waldport would also like to have oil painting classes for their students, but they need to find sponsors in order to do it.
We look forward to teaching many more classes here in the Siuslaw School District and the other area Districts.
